This Ruby is a 1 ½ year old, born on July 6th, 2009, Rescue Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that we're going to foster. He doesn't have a name yet. We're waiting on him to get here before we decide on a name for him. Actually we didn’t even know he was a he until we picked him up. We were calling him Ruby Tuesday, since he's a ruby cavalier and I picked him up on Tuesday. But, Elaine thought Ruby would be fine if he was a female, but since he's a male, we’re calling him Rudy instead. He is a puppy mill turn-in. Currently he has "Cherry Eye" in both eyes. It was originally thought that he was going to be blind in both eyes, but he does have some vision. After antibiotic treatment, he has more of his sight back, but will require twice daily drops to treat and lubricate his eyes. He will be going to a canine ophthalmologist to have them checked and see if he can do anything. We're taken him to the vet to get his checkup and all shots. We also scheduled his neuter while we're there. His teeth cleaning and neuter have both been done. We took him to the canine ophthalmologist today for a evaluation on his eyes. He's going to need surgery on both eyes to correct the hardened 3rd membrane that is protruding from them. We've got another set of drops to use until he has the surgery. He's a friendly guy that gets along great with the other dogs. He wants' to be friends with people, but is still scared of them. He comes up and lets you scratch his chin, but gets scared and runs off if you try any other place. He's definitely not housebroken yet. He's been to the ophthalmologist and had surgery on both his eyes. That came out very well. He was wearing a e-collar for a couple of weeks, but now has that off. There is no drops currently required for his eyes and has good vision in both. There is scar tissue in the corners of his eyes, but if that had been removed, he would have required drops in his eyes 3 to 4 times a day. With the scar tissue left there, he still has his tear ducts, so no drops are needed. He's back to his feisty, puppyish self after surgery for his eyes.. He enjoys playing with Skye, Clair, Buddy and Minnie. He's active, but he also loves to stretch across your lap and snooze. He's definitely come a long way. He's still a little skittish, but only if he's caught unawares. Otherwise he wants the attention, specially a good scratching or rubbing. He loves playtime with a rope or a ball. We get worn out before he does. He’s gotten over his shyness around the house. He continues to settle in and get more comfortable around "strangers". Of course he's like the typical cavalier. You're only a stranger for about 5 minutes. He's found his forever home.
