Gigi’s Story
My name is Gigi. I was rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri where I was used as a breeder. The rescuers thought I was between 3 and 5 years old. My foster mom thought she was picking up a puppy because I weighed less than 12.5 pounds. I was skin and bones, covered in fleas and ticks, and had feces caked between my toes. My feet and chest were stained yellow with urine. I barely had any hair and still don’t on my ears, hips, back legs, and tail. I had the worst breath because when I itched from the fleas, I chewed my hair and it wrapped around and between my teeth. When the nice lady at the vet pulled the hair off, my teeth were decaying and my gums were infected. I had thirteen teeth pulled but I am going to a special veterinary dentist to see if we can save the rest. I am taking antibiotics to clear up my gum infection. After my mouth is fixed, I will be spayed. Then I will have to see an orthopedic doctor to fix both my knees. I look like I am sneaking/creeping around because I have torn cruciate ligaments. I can’t wait to walk normal. My life has been hard but I am a good, sweet, gentle girl. I love to give kisses. My vet says I suffer from happy tail disease because I wag my bald tail so hard that it bangs on things and bleeds. I am growing more hair now that I have gotten rid of the fleas and ticks. I have some wonderful fleece jackets I wear to keep warm. I have a long way to go before I am ready for adoption, but I need donations now to help with my veterinary care. After Gigi's
dental problems were addressed, she was found to have exocrine
pancreatic insufficiency. She was not absorbing the protein from her
food. She now has a teaspoon of enzyme mixed with her food twice a day,
has nearly doubled her weight (19.8 pounds), and is growing more hair.
Gigi has been spayed and will have her stitches out on May 15th. Then
her back legs (cruciate ligaments) will be evaluated to see if she will
require surgery on both of them. Since gaining weight and muscle, Gigi
is walking much better and hopes she won't have to have both ligaments
fixed. Gigi is a very happy, affectionate girl who loves her food,
treats, and foster brothers. She craves and needs companionship. Gig's
personality has bloomed since she is healthier and is getting the
attention she deserves. She is now completely housebroken.
