Romeo is a 2 Year Old owner turn-in. He came into rescue several weeks ago. He was turned in due to aggression issues with the owners other cavalier. His first foster home also reported the same issue after a couple of weeks there. He's been given a clean bill of health, is up to date on his shots and been neutered. Heart clear, is on HeartGard and frontline. He's definitely a lover, but also has a dominate personality. He came in and within a couple of hours tried to dominate our 12 year old female cavalier, Katie. It lasted about 5 seconds, she had him on his back and was barking in his face. There've been no other instances since. I believe a lot of it is due to him being a male, in his "Teenage" years with hormones raging. You do need to be the Alpha with him until he gets settled into his place in the pack. I believe once he gets settled in, and a little older, he'll be fine. We're going to keep him here for at least 3 weeks to see if anything else occurs. He's settled in very well. Loves to run around the backyard, if someone's back there with him, chase balls and snuggle. He does have some separation anxiety when I leave, but that should disappear as he gets settled in. The separation anxiety has disappeared, but he is showing food aggression. He will try to take another dogs food, even when they're completely across the room, and his bowl isn't empty. For now we're crate feeding him. We've taken him from the crate for feeding. He's doing very well and does not have a problem as long as his bowl is 5 to 6 feet away from the other dog's bowls. He is allowed and will go check out the other dogs bowls after they walk away from them. He's found a wonderful home with 3 children. So far they love it that he like to retrieve a ball or dumbbell. It's great for him in that it works off his energy.
