Parker (Parks) is a 3 year old Rescue Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that we're fostering. Parker is a male Blenheim, a little overweight,31.5 lbs, but he seems to be in good health. He has a couple of medical issues, but if aware of them, and keep on top of it, there not a problem. He has Recurring Demodectic mange. It is not a contagious mange, it's caused by a sudden allergy to the Demodectic mite that all dogs receive from their mothers at birth. The vet has recommended quarterly flea dips to keep it in check. He also has an occasional urinary incontinence in his sleep. His vet has proscribed Prion, which has taken care of it. Getting his weight down may stop the incontinence also. We'll take him into the vet for a general checkup, per our policy, and had had him micro-chipped. His heart and patella's are good. He does have an ear infection, so besides the antibiotic, we're using medicated ear drops. Per our Vet's recommendation, we've discontinued the Prion. So far no problems with incontinence. We've started him on a diet. We give him 2/3rds the normal amount of food he's used to and the other 1/3rd is replaced with French cut green beans or unsalted/unseasoned rice cake. We started off with the green beans and he really seemed to enjoy them. He's active for a Cavalier. Easily kept up with his previous owner on 3 mile + runs, but I'm pretty sure that was before he gained weight. He’s not hyper, but does get anxious at times. He occasionally forgets things like “no jumping” and “stay away from the kids at mealtime”. (typical cavalier, there's food involved). Great with other dogs and loves attention. He doesn’t jump on the furniture and is housebroken. He will get up on furniture if invited, but will put his front legs up and wait to be helped up. Now with the loss of weight, he will get up on the furniture if called up. He hasn't seemed interested in playing with any balls until he found an old racquetball. He's been going around the house chasing it everywhere. Whoever adopts him will get a racquetball. :-) He is off all medications and is doing great. No mite flare-ups and his ear infection is gone. Parks has found his forever home. He's going home with a wonderful "Mom" to meet his "Sister". His sister is a 5 year old Tri, so he'll have company when mom is at work. He's settled in very quickly in his new home. He follows Precious, his new sister, around the house. He even follows her through the doggy door to the back yard. He won't go through by himself, but that's just a matter of time.
